The origin of e-learning lies in distance learning. As early as the 19th century, it was possible to acquire knowledge through correspondence courses. With the development of computer and internet technologies, the first digital learning systems were developed. These were computer programs designed to support the learner in various subject areas. The first concepts for computer-based learning were developed as early as the 1960s. With increasing internet access in the 1990s, e-learning also began to become really popular. During this time, the concept of learning management systems (LMS) was developed, on which learning material, exercises and communication with course instructors were provided. With the advent of the World Wide Web (www) and the development of learning platforms in the 2000s, e-learning became increasingly widespread. <\/p>

The first platforms for e-learning included WebCT (now part of Blackboard<\/b><\/a>) and Moodle<\/b><\/a>. These platforms enabled (prospective) specialists to access e-learning courses online and thereby expand their professional skills. The advantage of this new method was obvious: through the collaboration<\/a> <\/b>between trainers and employees, they were able to learn regardless of location and time, and adapt individually to their own learning pace. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

With digitization and the advent of Web 2.0, e-learning became increasingly interactive and networked. Global networking also enabled collaboration between teachers and people from different geographical and cultural backgrounds. <\/p>

Another important milestone in its history is the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which enable access to education and further training without borders. Since then, it has been possible to take online courses at well-known universities and educational institutions in order to learn new skills or deepen existing knowledge. The internet as a communication medium has become indispensable. <\/p>

In addition, the introduction of adaptive learning systems and personalized learning strategies has also opened up new possibilities in the field of learning design<\/a> <\/b>. The Corona pandemic<\/a> <\/b>has had an enormous impact on and revolutionized the field of e-learning. With the closure of schools, universities, further education institutions and employee academies worldwide, distance learning, e-learning and webinars have become the norm. Adjustments to video conferences, digital courses and online exams were necessary to maintain the learning process.
