It enables all people, regardless of their physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities, to use e-learning offerings. However, it is not only people with disabilities who can benefit from accessible measures. Older people and people who are temporarily restricted may also have special needs that can only be addressed with an accessible learning offering. Thus, accessible e-learning also addresses learners who have often been neglected in the past.     <\/p><p>Not only are certain measures now mandatory in order to comply with legal requirements such as the BGG and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (e.g. in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland), but considering accessibility also has advantages for companies, as it promotes compliance with legal requirements and improves their image. Furthermore, accessible courses are often more accessible to all users and offer an improved learning experience, including through multimedia approaches in which information is conveyed on several levels. This makes the e-learning courses better suited for different learning types. In addition, companies that use accessible approaches create a more inclusive working environment with more equal opportunities, which makes them more attractive employers.     <\/p><p>Although accessibility is such an important topic, it often does not receive the consideration it deserves. Why?  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-500a87ca elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"500a87ca\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><b>Challenges and typical pain points in implementation <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4595ccce elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4595ccce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Many companies understand the benefits of accessibility, and yet there are always problems with the actual implementation. Often, the necessary know-how to design accessible approaches is lacking. For example, anyone can look up the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mauth.cc\/glossar\/wcag-web-content-accessibility-guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WCAG standards<\/a><\/strong> (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), but implementing them all in their entirety, especially if previous processes do not already take this into account, is difficult. In addition, someone on the development team must be willing to take responsibility, which can be difficult due to a lack of knowledge about the legal framework for accessibility for people with disabilities. After all, it&#8217;s about the inclusion of other employees.    <\/p><p>Meanwhile, the question often arises as to whether accessible measures are not more expensive and time-consuming, and whether such an additional investment is worthwhile. Even if a course is designed to be accessible, problems can arise. For example, if later updates no longer take guidelines into account, if additions create inconsistencies in interaction design and layout, or if no one continues to supervise the topic and is responsible for questions or feedback.   <\/p><p>Overall, the challenges can be summarized as follows: <\/p><ol><li><strong>Lack of expertise:<\/strong> Information and know-how about WCAG and how to design and implement an accessible approach are lacking.<\/li><li><strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXW227356946 BCX8\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW227356946 BCX8\">Lack of responsibility:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXW227356946 BCX8\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW227356946 BCX8\"> There is no one who takes responsibility for the topic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW227356946 BCX8\"> or it is unclear who is responsible.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW227356946 BCX8\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> <\/span><\/li><li><strong>Time and cost factor:<\/strong> There is a concern that accessible measures in course creation will involve a higher expenditure of time or money.<\/li><li><strong>Lack of continuity:<\/strong> Accessibility is no longer taken into account during updates and there is no one responsible for it after the initial creation.<\/li><\/ol><p><br>But accessibility doesn&#8217;t have to be a complicated topic.<\/p><h2><strong>How modern authoring tools contribute to accessibility<\/strong><\/h2><p>Modern authoring tools can be used to overcome these challenges. Someone needs to investigate the topic and take responsibility for it. Make sure that it is taken into account and considered in the next development process.
